What a sealed note is for
Sealed notes are not messages you expect an answer to. They are a way of handing the weight of a moment to someone who already agreed to hold it.

A sealed note starts in the worst part of an urge, which is exactly why it is short.
Most apps in this space assume you want to talk. Pause Protocol assumes the opposite: that in the tight middle of a craving, composing a paragraph is more than you have. So a sealed note is one line. You write it, it goes to your partner, and it is marked read when they open it. That is the whole exchange.
What surprised us in testing is what people wrote. Almost nobody asked for advice. They wrote things like "sitting with it", "10:40pm, still here", "not tonight". The note was not a request. It was a witness.
That changes the design. A witness does not need to reply fast, so we do not push your partner to. There is no typing indicator, no read receipt pressure, no thread that grows. Your partner sees the line, and they can send back one line of reassurance if they want to. Then it closes.
On the free plan you get three sealed notes a week. That limit is not only commercial. Three a week keeps the note for the moments that actually earn it, instead of turning into a running chat you feel behind on. Plus removes the cap for the weeks when three is not enough.
One practical note: pick your partner carefully, and tell them what a sealed note is before you send the first one. The whole thing works because they already know they do not have to fix anything.
